What
is ICML's mission?
The
ICML is organized to serve the needs of the lubrication end user
on a global basis. The activities of ICML include standards development,
scholarships, skill certification and curriculum development.
How
much does it cost for Membership?
Individual
membership is not required for participation in any of ICML's activities.
There is a sustaining membership option available for US$2,000/year
that entitles all employees of a sustaining member company to 25%
discount on all ICML exam fees. Also, sustaining members are recognized
on ICML's Website and on select documents.
Why
should I get certified?
ICML
certification shows that you are a professional with the ability
to successfully lubricate machinery and utilize oil analysis. You
get worldwide industry recognition of your knowledge and proficiency
in oil analysis/machinery lubrication techniques.
How
much does it cost to take an exam?
The
fee to apply and take an exam is US$200. The cost for retake is
US$100.
How
many questions are there on the exam?
There
are 100 multiple choice questions.
How
long do I have to complete the exam?
You
have three hours to complete the exam.
Are
reference materials allowed in the examination?
No.
All our exams are closed book.
What
is the format of the exam?
All
questions are the multiple choice type. Each question has five possible
responses.
What
score is required to pass?
70%
correct answers.
How
can I prepare for the exam?
The ICML web site (www.lubecouncil.org) contains the Body of
Knowledge, as well as the Domain of Knowledge for each certification
type. The Body of Knowledge outlines each subject area being tested
in the exam, as well as their corresponding percentages. The Domain
of Knowledge section has links for purchasing reference materials
from various book sellers. You may also want to consider reviewing

For
how long is the certification valid?
The
certification is good for a period of three years. You will
then need to re-certify to maintain your MLA/MLT/LLA status.

Do I need to be Level I certified
before testing for Level II?
Yes,
in compliance with proposed ISO standards for certification of condition
monitoring personnel, ICML Level I certification is required prior
to sitting for ICML Level II exams.
Can
I retake the exam, if needed?
Yes,
ICML policies allow for unlimited retakes of the exam, but
in compliance with proposed ISO standards for certification
of condition monitoring personnel, there is a one month waiting
period between examinations.
What
do I receive after passing an exam?
Passing
candidates receive a Code of Ethics for signature and reference.
Shortly after, a wall certificate and wallet card will be forwarded
to you.
What
happens if I fail the exam?
Failing
candidates will be sent a failing notice highlighting their areas
of deficiency to help them better prepare for a retake.
Will
you release my exam results to the company I work for?
ICML privacy policies call for exam results to be released
to the candidate only. We will send an e-mail and/or letter
with your results directly to the e-mail/postal address you
provide us. Results will not be released by phone.
Will
my name be listed anywhere if I pass the exam?
Your
name and company name will be included in our list of ICML Certified
Professionals. This list is available on our web site and upon request
of the general public. Some certified professionals choose to use
this list as a directory and submit additional contact information.
We will only publish additional contact information upon your written
request.
Are
special arrangements available to candidates with disabilities?
Yes,
ICML will make every effort to fairly accommodate the special needs
of candidates with disabilities. Please contact ICML for information.
Does
ICML comply with anti-discrimination policies?
ICML
does not discriminate among applicants as to age, sex, race, religion,
national origin, disability, or marital status.
