Test Procedures

Candidates Expected Behavior and Testing Policies
  • Upon entering the testing area, the candidates shall direct themselves to the proctor, with a photo ID available. The proctor shall check the ID, have the candidate read and sign a copy of the "Candidate expected behavior and testing policies", sign the receipt of the package in the candidate list, by his/her name and corresponding number, and hand the candidate his/her corresponding pre-numbered individual exam package. The proctor shall instruct each candidate to keep his/her individual exam packages sealed until instructed to start the examination.

  • When all candidates present have been accounted for and handed their individual exam packages, the proctor shall start the timed examination. If a candidate is tardy no extra time will be allowed. If a candidate is tardy by more than 30 minutes his/her exam package may be re-assigned to a waiting candidate. Candidates shall print and sign their names on the response card ( name only ) before answering the exam questions. Answers (only one per question) shall be marked on the response card provided. Either pen or pencil may be used (not provided) . The proctor has extra response cards, if needed. If more than one answer is marked per question, that question will be automatically voided.
  • Candidates shall refrain from smoking, eating, drinking or chewing gum and may not leave the room at anytime during the examination. Also no conversation or disruptive activities shall take place during the examination.
  • The exam is closed book. Candidates shall possess only the individual exam package and allowed technical tools (pencils, erasers, simple drafting instruments and a basic, non-programmable scientific calculator) with them. Any other materials shall be left outside the testing area.
  • Any candidate who violates the policies or engages in, or is an accessory to, fraudulent conduct or any other unethical behavior shall be excluded from the examination. All items of the individual exam package for such candidate shall be collected by the proctor and placed back into the package. A notation of "unethical behavior" shall be made in the candidate list, along with a brief notation of the nature of the breach of conduct. The package of such candidate shall be return to ICML with all other exam materials. Candidates excluded for unethical behavior must wait at least 12 months before reapplying.
  • Upon completion of the exam, candidates shall, in the presence of the proctor, place all exam related materials in the return envelope provided within their individual exam packages, seal it, sign across the seal, and return the same to the proctor. After being accounted for, candidates shall leave the testing area. All persons who take any ICML examination agree to maintain the confidentially of the examination content and to never disclose examination content to others . No copying or removal of any materials related to the examination is allowed. In the event of breech of security ICML reserves the right to apply score cancellation procedures.

Candidates with disabilities may request special accommodations in advance of the testing session. They shall send their request to info@lubecouncil.org . Foreign candidates may be allowed an English dictionary WITH PRIOR APPROVAL FROM ICML. Please contact ICML in advance of the exam.
  • Passing candidates will be awarded a Certificate and Wallet Card identifying their certification status. Their name and company name will be included in ICML's list of certified professionals and will be published and/or available to the general public. Failing candidates will be sent a fail notice with information of general content areas of mastery. Test results will not be released until payment has been received.
  • The examination at any level may be taken any number of times; however the candidates must wait one (1) month before applying for re-examination. See above for policy on candidates excluded for unethical behavior.
  • The certification is valid for three years from the date of issue. Re-certification by points is available granted candidates obtain sufficient points (see our web site for details) and submit a completed application to ICML within six months after the expiration of certification.
  • In the event a candidate has a problem with an exam question (i.e., feels it does not have a correct answer, finds it misleading, etc.) a notation describing the problem should be made on the side of the referenced question.  In this case, ICML will submit it for review.  By not making a notation, the candidate is waiving his/her right to appeal.
